Job Description
Cutting and trimming
- Cut, trim, and mince meat
- Debone and portion meat
- Cut carcasses into smaller portions
Preparing meat
- Season, smoke, or marinate meat
- Process meat into smallgoods and other meat-based products
- Weigh and price meat
- Wrap and package meat
Preparing displays
- Prepare in-store meat displays
- Shape, lace, and tie roasts and other meats
Advising customers
- Discuss different cuts of meat with customers
- Explain how to cook and safely store meat
Maintaining safety and hygiene
- Maintain proper food safety and hygiene standards
- Keep their working environment safe
- Store meat in accordance with health and safety legislation
Managing inventory
- Manage inventory, keep records of sales
- Determine amount, product line, and freshness of products
Negotiating with suppliers Collaborate with procurement to source the highest quality meats and Maintain supplier relationships.
Training and mentoring
- Lead, mentor, and train a team of butchers
