Job Description
Food preparation
- Ensuring ingredients are fresh
- Weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients
- Cooking food using a variety of methods, such as baking, grilling, frying, boiling, and steaming
- Preparing sauces
- Assembling and combining ingredients
- Arranging and garnishing food
Food safety
- Following food safety procedures to prevent cross-contamination and food-borne illnesses
- Ensuring food is prepared and cooked to the correct specifications
- Properly handling food and ensuring correct storage
Kitchen maintenance
- Cleaning work areas, equipment, utensils, and dishes
- Keeping the kitchen clean and organized
- Maintaining a sanitary kitchen
Food service
- Serving meals
- Attending to the detail and presentation of each order
- Placing and expediting orders
- Presenting cooked and prepared items to food service workers
- Observing and directing food service workers serving food
